Unplug in the New Year

Unplug in the New Year

We always encourage families to get out and experience the great outdoors together. Whether that is in the form of a hike up a mountain, a walk through your local park, or simply hanging in your own backyard, being outdoors with those you love is the best bonding experience there is. To get the most out of it, try unplugging from technology and immersing yourself in nature. You’ll be surprised at how great it feels!

Leave the Tablet at Home

We can’t always leave our phones at home due to emergencies arising or using them for the GPS capabilities, but you can leave the iPad or tablet at home. Let your kids know that family time means a break from technology. Lead by example and stay off your phone and engage with everyone, and your surroundings.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

In our modern world, it’s easy to rely on our phones and other technology for everything. When spending time with loved ones, remove the temptation completely by leaving your phone out of reach, or even out of sight. When you reach your campsite, or you’re walking around the zoo, stuff it in the side pocket of your Piggyback Rider and forget about it!

Do Not Disturb

One of the best features our smartphones have is the do not disturb setting. This is especially helpful for busy adults who depend on the phone to work or stay connected. You can have certain settings to mute social media notifications and text messages. It can also allow for certain calls to come through, like family members and close friends. Disconnect, but never skip a beat.

Build Healthy Habits

Parents can definitely lead by example when it comes to technology use, doing so can help you break your bad habits as well. Limit your usage to certain times of the day and the hours it can be used. Do the same for all your family members and help them stay accountable of how often they’re using tech.

In 2019, we challenge you to get outdoors more than ever. This time, do it without the phone! Unplug and enjoy the quality time spent with loved ones this year. Don’t forget to order your Piggyback Rider for an even easier outdoor season with kids!
