In recent years, it has become increasingly easier to spend hours and hours indoors, and children are no exception to this rule. If you notice this pattern with your own kids as well, you can help your kids spend more time outside. All you need to do is make the outdoors seem more appealing.

Go for a Hike

Involving your children in activities, such as hiking, is a great way to initiate their appreciation for the great outdoors. Hiking, in general, takes very little skill, which makes it a great activity to do with children. During hikes, children are exposed to new surroundings, which helps to spark their curiosity. You can use it as an opportunity to teach them about different animals or plants. While hiking, you can bring a bag to collect trash along the way and teach your child about the importance of caring for the environment. Depending on your area, you might be able to choose from a variety of trails, which differing levels of difficulty. It is important, however, to pick a hike that your children can complete, otherwise, you will be carrying them the rest of the way.

Take Them Swimming

During the hot summer, the best way to get your kids outside is by going to the pool. When children can escape the heat and play in the water, they are also able to find ways to entertain themselves, and often they will make friends at the pool. If your children are not experienced swimmers, you can enroll them in swimming lessons. Kids of all ages can benefit from swimming lessons. They will learn how to stay safe in the water and they will also learn the correct form for different strokes, preparing them to join a competitive swim team in the future.

Limit Screen Time

Once your children understand and apricate the fun they can have outside, you can encourage them to go outdoors by limiting their time with technology. Even with the knowledge, the kids will have about the outdoors, tablets, computers, and televisions will most likely be their default. Limiting screen time helps your children to budget their time wisely, while still enjoying the things that they enjoy. Additionally, if children spend less time on technology and more time outside, they will have an easier time falling asleep.

Being outside is where a child’s imagination can flourish. If you can encourage them to spend time outside, your children will be happier and healthier. Now that you have ideas, go outside with your kids and enjoy the weather!
