Plan a Winter Getaway

Winter has its strong points – lots of cozy days filled with comfort food and hot chocolate. There’s the holiday season, which brings friends and family together, and the traditions that help us feel grounded, connecting the past to the present. There’s a lot to love about winter.
But there’s a dark side, too. Literally. The days get shorter and the darkness creeps in, stealing light and sending sensitive brains into SAD – seasonal affective disorder. Whether you’ve got an official diagnosis or just a tendency, planning a winter getaway is a great option for fighting the winter blues before they strike. Here are some tips for planning a great winter trip.
Prioritize Vitamin D . No matter where you go, be sure you’ll be able to soak up some sun. You may assume this means a trip to the beach, but you can get plenty of sunshine on the ski slopes too. Whatever your preference, be sure you’ll be outside.
Take Advantage of Off Season Pricing . If you’re heading south for the winter, be sure to check on special deals offered during winter months. Unfortunately some options may see a greater influx of visitors during winter months, as the snowbirds head south. Ask around and be creative as to where you’re willing to go.
Consider an All-Inclusive Resort . If you’re willing to head out of the country, be sure to check out the Caribbean and Antilles. These islands are warm year round and feature many all-inclusive resorts, which means once you step foot on the property, you won’t have to think about anything except which amazing restaurant you’ll try each night.
Pay Attention to Return Guest Discounts . Even if you don’t qualify this year, you might as well plan to use them next year. Sign up for a deal now and keep seasonal blues away year after year.
