Thanksgiving 2014

3 for Thanksgiving 2014

We’re betting there’s at least one radio station in your car’s preset list that, starting next week, will play nothing but Christmas/holiday music around the clock. We’re also betting there’s at least one retail store within 30 minutes of your house that already has a holiday display front and center in its window.

But before we rush headlong into the holiday shopping season (Black Friday looms!) we have one more holiday to get to and through – Thanksgiving. And before the 1,563rd playing of “Rudolph” turns your brain into mush, we’d thought we’d share three kind of unique things we like about Thanksgiving.

“Off to Plymouth Rock” – Not even a decade old, this wonderful kids book by Dandi Mackall (LINK) is a fun read. We like the rhyming. Your kids will too, so much so they won’t even know they’re being taught a basic history lesson of how the Pilgrims came to this country.

“Alice’s Restaurant” - If you’re lucky enough to live where a radio station will eschew holiday music in favor of this 18-minute Arlo Guthrie classic, tune in on Thanksgiving Day. If you don’t have such a station nearby check this out (LINK).

Underachievers – Back in August we thought the football games scheduled for Thanksgiving would be great….but they feature a bunch of underachieving teams (Lions, Cowboys, Jets, playing the Texans, Redskins and Patriots) So why do we like these games? Beside the tradition, these are three great games to fall asleep to. Plus we get to see RGIII play.

What about you? Anything special you like about Thanksgiving?
